Whether you’re a do-it-yourselfer or not, there are just a few items are needed to make the move into your new home easier, happier, and safer. The following items have been found to be among the most important tools to have when moving into a new Parrish home.
Some of them are probably already in your tool chest or garage, but if they’re outdated, you might want to invest in a newer tool with extra features.
Must Have Items You’ll Want to Add or Update
- Fire extinguisher. A kitchen sink spray hose or buckets of water are no match to a kitchen fire. Purchase a new fire extinguisher. In fact, purchase multiple extinguishers, as there are various types depending on the type of fire. Store extinguishers, designed to fight cooking oil fires in the kitchen, and general-purpose extinguishers in other rooms of your new home.
- Ladders. Ladders are more than just handy to have around. It’s crucial to have them available to prevent injuries. You’ll want one for rooftop access, a sturdy step ladder (with four feet), and a small leaning ladder you can use against indoor walls.
- Wet/Dry Shop Vac. It’s not a luxury. It can be a real lifesaver when you have big spills to clean up or when you drop a handful of small screws. There are endless situations where a shop vac will come in handy.
- Extension cords and cord organizers. Do you have a giant knot of cords tucked in a drawer? How does that work when you really need an extension cord. Treat yourself to an extension cord organizer. Four or five will do, but make sure that at least one of them is heavy-duty to prevent accidental fires.
- Bonus tools. Some of the basics that will come in handy include a screwdriver (both Phillips Head and standard), drill, and a hammer. A few others that you’ll be glad you have are a headlamp when needing to work hands-free under the sink or in closets, a stud finder for hanging art and shelves, and a crowbar.
