You sit down to watch your favorite television program or Netflix movie, or you’ve just sat down to eat your supper. The phone rings – you decide to either answer or ignore it. Likely, if caller ID screen your calls, you simply ignore it. Is there a way to stop robocalls altogether?
If you’re just plain tired of all of the telemarketers, scammers, and robocalls on your home phone line, I understand. Believe me, I’ve been there myself. You pick up the phone and there’s silence signaling that you’re about to hear a pre-recorded message or someone will come on the line “momentarily.” However, there’s a free service you can use to stop robocalls.
How to Stop Robocalls
Though they use their cell phones, many people today just can’t just get rid of their landlines. Though, you can simply ignore the call multiple times a day – everyday –this gets old fast.
The FTC held a contest in 2013 to fight the scourge of robocalls we’re bombarded with.
The winner? Nomorobo, a free service that intercepts incoming calls to your phone, cross checks it with a known robocall massive blacklist database. If it determines the call is a robocall, it screens the call to determine if there is a human on the other end. If the call is a bot, it will never make it to your phone. You’ll hear one ring, and Bada Bing! Peace and quiet at last.
Cost for This Service
This is the best part – it’s free, but your phone provider must provide the “Simultaneous Calling” feature. You can get a form on the Nomorobo website to quickly determine if your carrier offers this service. If not, you can contact your phone company asking if they will provide it.
