The beloved spring cleaning ritual … it’s a time to de-clutter, a time to organize, and a time to donate unused household items. Spring cleaning is so much more than getting your duster out and vacuuming the floors.
Begin at the Kitchen
This may sound off beat, and to some it is, but many odors in your home start at the kitchen, and specifically, in the fridge.
Bad milk, mildewed cheese that’s best kept for a science experiment, and spoiling vegetables give off an odor when you open your kitchen door and the smell continues to linger. Get rid of anything that’s outdated, is spoiling (I know this is a no-brainer), or has mildew.
Clean Your Vents
Each room has venting for heating and air conditioning, and they can accumulate a lot of dust. Take the time to clean them – it freshens the air, and small touches like this can make a big difference in how the room looks.
Have Your Carpets Professionally Cleaned or Clean Them Yourself
Carpets can give off unpleasant odors you may not even be aware of. Giving them a spring cleaning can go a long way in sprucing up your home. Dust mites and other allergens lurk beneath the surface as well as whatever your shoes might have picked up outdoors. Clean your carpets – you won’t be sorry.
Use Your Dishwasher As a Cleaning Tool
It can be loaded up with plastic toys, toothbrush holders, sponges, pet dishes, range grills, brushes, range knobs, mouth guards, and barbecue grills. Using it to its full potential cuts down on your cleaning time. Use caution, though, delicate items or those with painted surfaces that can’t take the dishwashing chemicals are best cleaned by hand. Better to be safe than sorry.
