Anna Maria is a charming city located within Manatee County, Florida. The island occupies the northern portion of Anna Maria Island, and is one of three separate municipalities located on the island (Holmes Beach and Bradenton Beach are located to the south). What the island lacks in geography (the city occupies a total area of 1 square mile), it more than makes up for in style and charm. A favorite destination for vacationers, you’ll find white sandy beaches, sunny skies, beautiful waters and a truly unparalleled “Old Florida” ambiance. Here, neighborhoods are quiet and peaceful, just the way you would want island living to be.

The rest of Manatee County, city by city
I work all over Manatee County, not just Anna Maria. If you’re weighing this area against somewhere else, here’s a plain-English read on each place I’m asked about most — roughly closest to Anna Maria first.
- Holmes Beach — the middle of Anna Maria Island, and the most year-round of the three island cities.
- Bradenton Beach — the southern end of Anna Maria Island, home to Bridge Street and the Historic Old Town district.
- Longboat Key — the long barrier island south of Anna Maria, straddling the Manatee and Sarasota county line.
- Bradenton — the county seat and the biggest of the group — the Riverwalk, the Village of the Arts, and the widest range of housing in the county.
- Palmetto — just north across the Manatee River from Bradenton; smaller and more historic, with the riverfront and the 55+ communities I get asked about most.
- Ellenton — between Palmetto and Bradenton on the Manatee River, with quick I-75 access and the outlet mall.
- Parrish — east of Bradenton and the fastest-growing part of the county, so most of what’s for sale there is new construction.
- Myakka City — the rural east side of the county — acreage, horses, and room between neighbors.
